The High Waisted Skirt

Retro is back! The gorgeous trends of the 1950s have returned in a most lady-like fashion. The high waisted skirt is one of those retro inspired trends that I just love! Whether you choose a mini or long skirt, full or pencil style this trend is all about flaunting your assets! Put one on and instantly your legs appear longer, your posture is straighter and your waist looks smaller – who doesn’t want that?
This lovely pencil skirt from Schumacher shows a polished style for work, while still remaining fun with this great print. Paired with a simple blouse, like this silk draped style from Etro featured below, you have a trendy style perfect for beating the summer heat. Grab some classic pumps and your favorite summer tote, like the Robinson from Tory Burch, to complete your outfit. With a bold skirt like this one I like to keep it simple with the accessories, especially for work, so I chose the uncomplicated style of a watch and stud earrings.
Creating an hourglass silhouette with clothing is an area I focus intently on with my clients. There are very few clothing items that do this better than the high waisted skirt, so if you are seeking a style to flaunt your assets, find yourself a high waisted skirt that works for you. And if skirts aren’t your style, there are some really fun high waisted shorts to choose from as well. They offer the same figure flattering style with a more casual feel.
This is an outfit focused trend, meaning its all about how you style it, but there are so many options for pairing the high waisted look. Look to some other Spring/Summer 2013 trends to complete your own high waisted style, like crop tops, Black & White or layering.
